Aviation Security Officer Edinburgh Airport

We are looking for Aviation Security Officers to join the team at Edinburgh Airport on a 37 hour per week permanent contract.

Before you make your application, make sure you’ve visited our dedicated Security page to find out what to expect from the process and some useful tips!

About the role

Our Security team is dedicated and highly trained and we support thousands of people coming through the airport every day. The team is responsible for keeping all of our passengers and staff safe in the terminal and for their onward journeys.

Taking on one of the most vital roles in the airport, you will make sure that all passengers have a safe and enjoyable experience. You might be the first or only person our passengers meet on their journey through the airport, and we want to provide excellent customer service at every stage. As an Aviation Security Officer, your role will involve:

  • Screening all people and vehicles passing through restricted areas using archway detectors and manual body searching when necessary
  • Operating x-ray equipment to screen luggage and other items
  • Manually searching luggage for prohibited items
  • Checking identification or travel documents for all passengers, staff and airport users
  • Patrolling the terminal and outside areas to ensure that the airport is secure

The important bit

Please note that all roles within Security begin with a three-week full time training course. If your application is successful, you will be made a conditional offer subject to pre-employment checks and passing our training course.

These courses will be running until May 2023, so if you are looking for a role to start in a couple of months time, apply now and we can book you in to a later training course.

What we are looking for

We are looking for people from all backgrounds/experiences – so if you have excellent customer service skills, good communication and are a great team player then we want to hear from you! As we provide full training for all Security roles, no previous experience in working in a Security environment is required, but experience in working in a front-line customer service type role is desirable.

You must:

  • be able to learn and follow set procedures
  • be over 18 years of age
  • be able to be cleared in accordance with CAA regulations (includes providing a satisfactory five-year reference history and EAL being able to undertake a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Counter Terrorist Check on your behalf).
  • Please be aware that this role involves a lot of physical work, manual handling as well as being on your feet for long periods of time.

About working shifts

This is a fully flexible 37-hour contract working shifts and when the operation requires, you could be rostered up to 43 hours per week and offered overtime. The shift start and end times will vary with early starts, late evening finishes and potentially some night shifts. The shifts could start as early as 3.30am or your backshifts could finish at 10.30pm or midnight.

Please be aware that as we are a 24/7 operation, you will be rostered to work weekends and on bank/public holidays. The length of your shifts will also vary between 4 to 12 hours per shift.

You will be given a core roster, but it is likely that changes will be required due to operational needs– we would give around 1 weeks’ notice of any shift changes.

In terms of working patterns, it is likely that you would have 1 weekend in 4 off and where possible we try to limit single rest days to ensure a fair work/life balance.

What we offer

Apart from your salary, after completing your training you will also get shift pay, this is dependent on the shift pattern you work but could be up to £532 per month extra.

You will receive an accredited training certificate (Ground Security Operative) once you pass the training course which is transferable to other airports.
